Invitation to Theatre Idols Finals at Esplanade


On Monday 26 March 2007 at 8pm, ACTION Theatre in collaboration with Esplanade presents Theatre Idols Finals 2007, dramatized readings of new plays by Singapore's hottest playwrights at the magnificent Esplanade Concert Hall.

Featuring some of Singapore's most prominent actors, the dramatized readings will be directed by award-winning director Samantha Scott-Blackhall.

Audience members will be able to decide by SMS votes which new play should win and receive a full staging by ACTION Theatre.

Veterans vs. Upstarts

The four plays vying for the top spot at Theatre Idols this year are:

People in the Mirror by Desmond Sim
A chilling horror play about a boy who's afraid to look into the mirror.

Hitting (on) Women by Ovidia Yu
A hard-hitting and heartfelt piece about a woman who's hit out of nowhere by the mother of her first lover.

The Final Temptation of Stamford Raffles by Ng Yi-Sheng
A surrealistic piece exploring the last day of Singapore founder.

On Sundays the Kites Come Out to Play by Chong Tze Chien
A hilarious comedy about two couples, their friend and a baby
whose first word at a baby shower is a four-letter word. And it's not l-o-v-e!

Two of the above plays will compete with each other at the Finals.

Audience members at Theatre Idols Finals will be able to vote via SMS for the play they like the most after the readings. The winning play will receive
a full staging by ACTION Theatre next year!
