The financial risks of putting up new local plays continue to escalate in Singapore. Fewer Singaporeans are writing Singapore plays. Quality homegrown works are becoming harder and harder to find. Will Singapore soon become a creative desert with fewer and fewer originals?

Out of these concerns, ACTION Theatre launched Singapore Theatre Oasis to help nurture a wellspring of Singapore originals for the local stage. A new haven for new works and Singapore playwrights, Singapore Theatre Oasis is the brainchild of ACTION Theatre's artistic director Ekachai Uekrongtham.

Comprising three major components: The Playwriting Spa, The Stage Sanctuary and Mind Spring, Singapore Theatre Oasis is headed by Oasis Director and ACTION Theatre's Associate Artistic Director Desmond Sim. Aspiring and seasoned playwrights alike are welcome at Singapore Theatre Oasis. So are members of the public and Singapore visitors at most of its activities which are held in various spaces within the tropical landscape of ACTION Theatre's home at 42 Waterloo Street.
