ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
KUMAR. When they came up with a list of “Uniquely Singapore”, they
should have included Kumar. He’s not a just a personality. He’s a
tourist attraction. You’ve not been to Singapore if you’ve not been
“touched” by Kumar. From Cheers to Ra-Ra Show, to Boom Boom Room,
Kumar has been there and done that. Just look at the list of plays
he’s been in and you’ll know why he’s a HOT speaker for this hot
topic... Hot Pants, My Lonely Tarts, ABUSE SUXX, Close – In My Face
and Oh Man!
DESMOND SIM. Desmond Sim has won numerous playwriting awards and is
now ACTION Theatre’s Associate Artistic Director and also Director
of its Playwriting Spa, a programme of Singapore Theatre Oasis. He
spends most of his time helping playwrights creating more Singapore
originals for the stage. His long list of memorable plays include
Autumn Tomyam, The Swimming Instructor, Hubbies4Hire and Drunken
Prawns. He’s also co-written the screenplay for the internationally
acclaimed film Beautiful Boxer with Ekachai Uekrongtham.
OVIDIA YU. Ovidia Yu writes from a female Singaporean perspective,
having no other. So far over thirty of her pieces have been staged,
including ‘3 Fat Virgins’, ‘Viva Viagra’, ‘Breast Issues’,
‘Mistress’ and ‘Love Calls’. She has also received the Japan Chamber
of Commerce & Industry Young Artist Award, the Fulbright Award, the
National Arts Council Young Artist Award and the Singapore Youth
Award for Arts and Culture.
